About Dr. Willem Lybaert
Willem Lybaert started works as a Medical Oncologist since 2006, after finishing his studies and specialisation at the Catholic University of Leuven. He specialised in Internal Medicine and thereafter in Medical Oncology in the hospital Stuivenberg in Antwerp, Imelda Bonheiden, Gasthuisberg Leuven and AZ Sint-Jan in Brugge.
Since 2006, he works in VITAZ in Sint-Niklaas/Lokeren/Beveren where he is responsible for the head and neck cancer program and subspecialisation in digestive oncology, and as a consultant in the Multidisciplinary Clinic Head and Neck Cancers and neuroendocrine tumours in the UZA. Since 2020, he is a Board Member of the Belgian Society of Medical Oncology (BSMO), vice-president of the NETwerk ENETS CoE Antwerp-Waasland (neuroendocrine tumours) as well as vice-president of the Vlaamse Werkgroep voor Hoofd-Hals Tumoren (VWHHT) since 2021.
Dr. Lybaert teaches oncology for nurses at the Karel de Grote Hogeschool in Antwerp and Artevelde Hogeschool in Gent, and for general practitioners at the University of Antwerp. He is (co-)autor of several articles in national and international journals and is member of several national and international societies (BSMO, ESMO, ENETS, ASCO and VWHHT). He is also principal investigator of several oncological international phase II and III studies in VITAZ.
